Big is unique in that every issue, there are 10 a year put together by a different art director in a different country with different theme, co-ordinated by Big HQ in New York.
Manifesto: Through a lens of authenticity and sophistication, Big brings to life high quality content executed by a fertile global collective. The magazine’s unique position in the world of publishing stems from its collaboration with some of the foremost creative talent to produce powerful images surrounding a single theme, person, concept or place. More than a magazine, each project of Big represents a custom-built vision of pioneering ideas and iconic art.
From the theme of the issue, BIG, I got the subjects that are big in Brazil such as FAITH, DEVOTION,
FOOTBALL, SAMBA, CARNIVAL, the AMAZON forest, the list of all things that are INEFFICIENCY, the biggest football Stadium, the biggest church after the Vatican, the biggest japanese community outside of Japan,, the biggest wedding in a prison, Brazil is the biggest mixture of people from European nationalities.
I played around mixing images with the words. Such as the word SAMBA with the image of the biggest clandestine guns. FAITH with the biggest football stadium. DEVOTION for the samba schools at carnival. The word CARNIVAL all touching letters with the biggest wedding in a prison where the image shows all the couples kissing, so are the lettering, to say good bye on the last issue a stray dog in a supermarket.
